The main purpose of using gtk2, for me, is so that it does not look like crap the few times I open it in X mode.

I am unable to find any documentation on how --without-gconf affects Emacs? Does gconf truly have no effect without GTK+3, feels like it should do something if --with-gconf is default even without GTK+3?

Ambrevar commented on 2013-08-02 17:53

Yes it can, I've used emacs for years without gconf. Just add

--without-gconf

to the configure line. It would be really nice if you did it since -- in my
opinion at least -- the main purpose of using GTK2 is to get rid of gconf.

Emacs is dynamically linked to gconf, are you sure I it can be removed?

maandree commented on 2013-05-08 02:17

extra/emacs depends on gconf, is it only used for gtk3, or should it be removed or be made optional for extra/emacs as well?
If you have any bug or discussion URL for this please post it.

Could you remove the gconf dependency, which introduce 100M space.

Until imagemagick is updated in the Extra repo, you will need to build a newer version manually,
which you simply can do by using that package's PKGBUILD but just update pkgver.
