Thank you for the update. I re-tested an install on a blank ArchLinux install, it works now out-of-the-box.
Keep good job maintaining the AUR package of such a precious and useful little app!

I think I found the reason of this issue, I'm using a old version of Python Imaging Library (PIL) as a dependency of this package, I'm going to try to update the dependency array with the new version of PIL and see if this solves the problem.

I installed for the first time this AUR this morning. Probably I have the newest version already. I couldn't save project after the default installation.

I had to edit /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/photofilmstrip/core/ProjectFile.py , and replace
(-) thumbData = buffer(pilThumb.tobytes())
(+) thumbData = buffer(pilThumb.tostring())

Yes, that's the reverse of @cIdde workaround, but his message did help me a lot to solve my install issue.

I have already fixed this issue, you must re-install/update this package to get the new changes. Most likely you were using the old version.

One weird thing is that @cldde solution was to replace tostring() with tobytes(), but you said the opposite, could you confirm what exactly you did to workaround this issue?

I couldn't save a project. I had the same issue than @cldde reported here on 2016-08-20 21:01. His/her workaround did work for me. A big thank you. ( editing /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/photofilmstrip/core/ProjectFile.py , l.199 and replace tobytes with tostring )

Thank you for report this problem, I made a patch fixing this issue.

Yes, thanks for the package. Downloaded and installed today on Manjaro.
Works so far, only one little problem: saving projects does not work. Get error message:
File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/photofilmstrip/core/ProjectFile.py", line 199, in __ThumbToQuery
thumbData = buffer(pilThumb.tostring())
File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/PIL/Image.py", line 694, in tostring
"Please call tobytes() instead.")

This pretty much sais what the problem is.
I fixed it myself (edit file ProjectFile.py line 199, exchange tostring with tobytes and all works. But I think, that this should be fixed in the package, too. Don't know, though, if this problem exists on Arch, too. Also don't know, if Arch can handle the tobytes call. Maybe this should probably even be fixed in the source of photofilmstrip.
