Updated pkgbuild to use github master.zip, so instead of 71Mb you have to only download about 300kb.
It still reflects the latest git-changes. Some nice progress output curtesy to msg2.
/Also had to use `mkaurball`, whatever ?/

no, pacman will never pull AUR stuff, please use an aur-wrapper @see: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AUR_Helpers

Despite the package's name, I misunderstood that the PKBUILD builds from the latest git commit. As you can probably tell, I'm new to using AUR packages :P So forgive me if this next question is too obvious. Will running 'pacman -Syyu' update AUR packages as well? Or would one have to run 'makepkg' on all the individual packages?

birdspider commented on 2013-11-06 11:41

to clarify: this is a VCS/git package, no AUR-helper I know of will prompt you to update it automagically because git-upstream changed.

Usually you have to use e.g. "<cmd> -Syu --devel" for the helper to rebuild VCS packages.

Except when the PKGBUILD (i.e. I fix something) changes, then the pgkversion gets changed and your AUR-helper suggests an update.

what do you mean with "up to date" ? - you could rebuild it every hour if you want to. If you want every last commit, copy the PKBUILD to a folder and put a cronjob with 'makepkg' on it like say every 15min.

If that would make sense is another question.

birdspider, what is the best way to stay up to date with the latest nightcode git commits? I'm even down to help maintain this AUR package if you teach me how it's done.
