I also had troubles with building the package. It always stopped on an error with MonoDevelop.FSharpBinding -> error FS0193: The module/namespace 'Gdk'...
A reference to the type 'Gdk.EventClient' in assembly 'gdk-sharp' was found, but the type could not be found in that assembly

This helped me:
1) when the project started to build (after the configure part) i suspended it with Ctrl+Z
2) in another console i did:
> cd /tmp/packerbuild-1000/monodevelop-stable/monodevelop-stable/src/monodevelop
> make
3) this way the project has built succesfully
4) went back to the original console where the build was suspended and made it continue with:
> fg
5) the build + package creation + install finished successfully this way.

OK, well I'm afraid you'll just have to report the error upstream. If they propose a patch just for Arch Linux I'll be happy to add it to both packages.

Ok, so accidentally deleted that comment... lol, here is there error again for reference.

I have fsharp installed as well. I just tried the stable AUR you posted, it fails with the same error.

Errors:

I suppose maybe the difference is I have fsharp installed. Do you? If you don't I might add fsharp as a dependency in case. I just did, as I might be asleep before you get a chance to reply.

For me it builds fine and I haven't the foggiest as to the problem. I would recommend you start a bug report at https://bugzilla.xamarin.com/enter_bug.cgi. See what the upstream developers have to say. If they have a patch to offer just for Arch Linux I'll be happy to add it to this package.

Oh and I just re-created the monodevelop-stable AUR package. I built it successfully so it should work. Plus I have added a monodevelop (specifically 6.1.2.38) package to my [pkgbuild-current] repository. So even if the build fails on your PC for whatever reason you should be able to install it from my [pkgbuild-current] repository. See the monodevelop-stable pinned comment for details on how to add this repo. Either that or see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Unofficial_user_repositories#pkgbuild-current.

@stratos695 what do you mean is there a way to build this? Merely git clone this package's repo and run makepkg. If you're experiencing a build error please share it.

stratos695 commented on 2016-10-21 18:36

Is there any way to build this? I really need monodevelop >= 6.0 and monodevelop-stable has been deleted. =(

@fusion809 I can confirm that the pkgver() function issue is solved now. The fsharp thing is still an issue that can be solved by temporarily installing it (shouldn't it be added as a build dependency?) but after a while I get this error

/tmp/yaourt-tmp-horatiu/aur-monodevelop-git/src/monodevelop/main/external/fsharpbinding/.paket/paket.targets: error : Command 'mono --runtime=v4.0.30319 /tmp/yaourt-tmp-horatiu/aur-monodevelop-git/src/monodevelop/main/external/fsharpbinding/.paket/paket.bootstrapper.exe' exited with code: 1.

Sounds to me like a networking issue, if it persists maybe try git cloning this repo and performing a clean build and install (with makepkg -sifC --noconfirm, for example).
