I have just updated the pkgbuild with m4a support + deps cleanup. ffmpeg should not be necessary: I only added 'faad2' 'libmp4v2' and built with faad=1 (as per the build instructions).
I have however not tested properly since I don't use aac files.
Also, please bear in mind that any option not enabled by default is unlikely to work perfectly...

Today i build Mixxx (verison 2.0.0.r2462.g2d4f67e) but without the ffmpeg=1 flag and playing m4a/mp4 files works fine.

Gimmeapill commented on 2016-10-12 11:16

@Turbo: add the faad=1 ffmpeg=1 flags to the build section, not the package one.

I have tried like that:
build() {
cd "$srcdir/mixxx"
scons qtdir=/usr/lib/qt4 prefix=/usr faad=1 ffmpeg=1 install_root="$pkgdir/usr" virtualize=0 localecompare=1 qt_sqlite_plugin=0 opus=1 optimize=native build=release battery=0 tuned=1 wv=1 shoutcast=0

package() {
cd "$srcdir/mixxx"
scons qtdir=/usr/lib/qt4 prefix=/usr faad=1 ffmpeg=1 install_root="$pkgdir/usr" install

still the same...

@Turbo: there are two command lines starting with “scons” in PKGBUILD, they need these two extra parameters. For more clarity you can also read the comment by romein (the earliest on this page) that I referred to.

I can't get things to work even after following your comment.
I have added 'faad2' 'libmp4v2' to the dependencies,I do not understand the meaning of "appended faad=1 ffmpeg=1 to the two scons command lines", i have try with or without them but both failed, m4a & mp4 are shown in the library but i can not load them.
I have ffmpeg and ffmpeg2.8 on my system and opening M4A files works.
[Sorry for not understanding well].

You may add "upower" to the build dependencies.

The version you get from Git these days calls itself 2.1.0-alpha-pre, and with 2.1.0 the program handles M4A/AAC in a stricter way which means that many M4A files will not play even after following romein’s comments below.

I found http://mixxx.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8231&p=29018 and did the following in the build file to get things to work:

• appended faad=1 ffmpeg=1 to the two scons command lines, just before “install_root=”
• added 'faad2' 'libmp4v2' to the dependencies list as before

I believe that some ffmpeg dependency should also be registered. I have ffmpeg and ffmpeg2.8 on my system and opening M4A files works. As I am unlikely to ever remove ffmpeg I probably won’t run into trouble even without telling the package manager about the dependency. Browsed the Git source available at https://github.com/mixxxdj/mixxx briefly to see whether Mixxx comes with its own version of ffmpeg but didn’t find anything. I did find a source comment that says “Supported version are FFmpeg 0.11-2.x and Avconv 0.8.x-11.x | FFmpeg is multimedia library that can be found http://ffmpeg.org/ | Avconv is fork of FFmpeg that is used mainly in Debian and Ubuntu that can be found http://libav.org”.

@m0r13: Very likely, thanks for the heads up.
I'll double check in the next few days

Hey, I just had to install hidapi aditionally as scons was complaining that libusb was not found (was internally also looking for libusb-hidapi which is apparently in hidapi package). I guess that should be part of the dependencies.
