When I start this up in Cinnamon the icon appears in the tray in the lower right-hand corner. If you mean you'd like to have an icon in the tray, so you can click on that to start it -- I don't know how to do that yet.

But you can use the following lightscreen.desktop file to make a quick shortcut on your menu. Once that's showing up you can right-click "Add to Panel" and this should achieve what you're looking for.

Comment=The easy screenshot tool.

Has anyone had any luck getting this to startup with Cinnamon with an icon in the tray?

Thanks for reminding me. This is done.

Everyone: v2.3 is out. I've put together the PKGBUILD hastily, and I haven't really had time to test any of this. Please let me know about any bugs you find, either here or by email, and I'll try to look into them. My hope is that some of the longstanding issues have been addressed in this release.

I should have some more time to look into this around the middle of December, so any investigation you can do in the meantime will be much appreciated :)

Please update pkgver to 2.3 https://lightscreen.com.ar/whatsnew?from=2.3

Hi @Aigle,

Thanks for letting me know, and I really apologize for these difficulties. As you can see others have had similar problems. Sometimes using an older version works better, although it's poor form to suggest downgrading and so I hesitate to make that my official recommendation. But it's something to try.

Looks like there's a new version of out, so I'll need to update to that soon anyway. In the meantime could you try that out and see if it solves the problem (or introduces new, exciting bugs)?

I can't seem to be able to set any hotkeys for anything. When i try to set the Print key to any of the capture methods, i get the error:

mod: "print"
Key added: Qt::Key(Key_Print)
Invalid hotkey: key conversion is not defined

And the program crashes. This happens even without Print being set to anything in the xfce settings. In fact, i seem to get the same error no matter which key i choose.
I also did try to reinstall and delete lightscreen cache and configs.

Thanks for letting me know. All of the hotkeys work for me except for the "Full Screen" one -- for some reason no matter which I choose for that it won't work. But I can use all the others (active window, select area, etc.). Of course, that's still a pain. Can you be more specific about which ones aren't working for you? Also, please try deleting the cache and config files as I mentioned a while back, that sometimes seems to solve these problems.

I'll consider filing a bug report about it. Might be a good idea to try this in master and see if it works there, maybe I can cherry-pick a commit to fix it.

I had the same issue as @davidmcinnis, and uncheking the default hotkey solved the problem. The thing is I actually want to use hotkeys as they're faster to use, so isn't there another way to solve this?

davidmcinnis commented on 2016-04-04 18:42

Deleting the config file at .config/K/Lightscreen.conf fixed it.

I get the same error code with a segfault. However, it appears for me that one thread crashes and another continues running in the background, allowing me to use the program. Here's what I recommend trying:

(1) pacman -Rdd lightscreen and reinstall.

(2) Delete cache and configs associated with lightscreen, located at ~/.config/K/Lightscreen.conf and ~/.cache/K

(3) Get rid of the default hotkey for Print (uncheck it).

Let me know if that helps. Failing that, if this is a crucial program for you (as it has become for me) you could downgrade in the meantime to 2.0 or 2.1.
