It seems that the gpaste from extra it is run as root/sudo, making the Cinnamon applet[1] not useful anymore.
Do you use the applet or anything similar, instead of just the "gpaste-client ui"?

The new gpaste package available in extra only depends upon gtk3, so I'll use this one instead.
